Albert Franz Appointed New KAAD-President
Professor Albert Franz was appointed new President of the Catholic Academic Exchange-Service (KAAD) by the German Bishops’ Conference. He succeeds Prof. Josef Reiter, who held this office since 2003.

Professor Franz is a professor of theology at the University of Dresden. He studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical University Gregoriana in Rome and in Würzburg. In 1974 he was ordained to the priesthood. He received his doctorate degree at the Catholic University at Eichstätt in 1982 and became a professor at that institution in 1988. He was the Chairman of the German Section of European Society for Catholic Theology (1995 - 2005) and Chairman of the Katholisch-Theologischer Fakultätentag (2002 – 04). Since 1993 he is full professor of Systematic Theology at the TU Dresden.

The professor (em.) of philosophy Josef Reiter resigned from his position for reasons of age and after having completed two full terms. He had taken over the presidency of KAAD from Peter Hünerman (former professor of Dogmatics at Tübingen). Reiter had been President of the University of Mainz between 1991 and 2001. KAAD will formally say farewell to Prof Reiter at the Annual Academy of 2012.

Dominic Ko Ko Lwin (Myanmar)
When Cyclone Nargis hit Myanmar in April 2008 and left 84.000 people dead and hundreds of thousands without shelter, it was Dominic Ko Ko Lwin, KAAD-Alumnus, who played an important role in the rebuilding process. According to Father Henry Eikhlein, director of Caritas Pathein, Lwin was as a Caritas project coordinator „of greatest importance for the success of the rehabilitation project”.
